Springcleaning!

I have been very busy lately, unfortunately nothing involved patchwork or quilting.
First there was the Dutch carnival, celebrated in the southern provinces. 4 Days of parades, putting on silly costumes, dancing and..yes drinking.
The first day of the festivities was extra special 'cause it was my 53th birthday.
DH surprised me with a BIG bouquet of my favourite flowers (tulips ofcourse!)

not quite opened on the pic, but believe me: the next day they were beautifull!!

DH's birthday is in february too and together we got a great present from the kids. They booked us a night in a hotel in the medieval Belgian town Brugge next weekend. That'll be a most welcome break!

Then there was a day of moving planned. Youngest DD back home and eldest DD's last stuff to her BF's house which is now hers too. One of the small prints in the parental contract, which by the way, no one ever showed me when (or better before!) I got pregnant.

And then I spent some days cleaning and painting. I have a rather big built-in storage closet in the back of my kitchen. We had the freezer there but since that is now in the new kitchen, we took that one out. I emptied the closet completely, painted the walls, ceiling and the door. Since I had all the painting gear out I also painted other things that needed a fresh white coating. I still got 4 doors to go but I'll save that for another time!
Cleaning out one closet leads to another where you find stuff that's supposed to go to the third etc.

I also did some springcleaning in my head while painting and sanding and painting again. I turned 53 and decided the time of hiding is over. I'm not and never was quite happy with myself but what the heck..it won't get any better over the years now will it?!

Here we are, me and my kids in our carnival costumes. Royal in the middle, after all it was my birthday..

And last but not least: DD Lotte and I (on iceskates last january)

Found it!

The kitchen is half done. Yep, half: the wrong cabinets were delivered. As you can see the upper doors open from bottom to top instead of left to right. When they're opened, the handle touches the ceiling and there's no way I can reach it to close it again. The kitchenpeople take all responsibility ofcourse but new doors take 5 weeks to be delivered. During that time we can't place tiles to the backwall 'cause there's a posibility that all the upper cabinets have to be replaced. Ah well, all the stuff is in place for now, everything is in working order so we'll manage!
I'll post better pics of a completed kitchenarea in a week or 5 to 6!

Buying a polkadotted vase to put some stuff in doesn't have to wait; that's something you can do right now and has nothing to do with wrongly delivered doors :)

And look what I found now that the sewingroom is cleared and cleaned!

I'll try this evening if I still know HOW to quilt.....

Warzone!

First of all: thanks for all the nice comments and emails! The support sure made us all feel better. We're doing oké, although DH still feels a bit down and sad, but ofcourse loosing your Mum ís a big thing, no matter age or circumstances. He'll get by in time.

DD Maren visited and wrote to different Hotel Management schools and feels that this is a better choice than Archeology. Hopefully she get's in the school of her choice. We'll move her stuff back in a week or 2.

Still don't know what a needle looks like and this is why:

Welcome to my former sewingroom!
All the kitchenstuff is put in here..

..and this is the other warzone: the kitchen area. Tomorrow they 'll bring all the new kitchen cabinets (don't know where to put them, my whole house is a mess) and thursday the new kitchen will be installed. This evening DH and I "only" have to smoothen the walls and the rest is up to the kitchen people.
I hope I can show a pic of a wonderfull (white) modern kitchen with working tap, dishwasher, oven, freezer etc next week!
(and perhaps I can blog some quilty things again!!!)
